From one survivor to another, our mission at Pedal to the Metal is to inspire others to flee and NEVER look back! Sometimes the cost of leaving is just one more barrier between being stuck or living a life of freedom, happiness, and safety.
We are here to assist with the costs of moving, like my Dad was for me. Pedal to the Metal is available to help one woman at a time by providing gas cards, moving trucks, an apartment deposit, or a storage unit.
If I can help just one woman at a time get the life she truly deserves, my mission here on Earth will be complete.
The Road To Freedom
On July 11th, 2017, I finally fled my abuser. I had already moved out, was living in my own space, and him and his friends were harassing me and bullying me so bad that I was in fear every day. I had $40 to my name. When my Dad told me I needed to leave town right away for my own safety, I asked him, "With what money?" He told me not to worry about it, pack my bags, he paid for a U-Haul for 5 days, put enough money in my account to drive anywhere and go start a new life, and NEVER look back.
I put an ad on Spokane Craigslist, looking for a dog friendly room to rent, in a place I'd never been, a city I knew no one in. I changed my phone number, blocked my abuser and his friends from all social media, filed a police report, and moved on.
When I was somewhere in the middle of Oregon, "Pedal to the Metal" popped into my head. I decided I was going to be a touring musician and raise awareness and funds for domestic violence and tell my story on every stage, interview, radio station, TV show, magazine write up, and inspire others to flee to safety.
Not everyone makes it out alive. I did. I am here to tell my story. After each show, a portion of my tip jar goes into this non-profit that I have built from scratch. We are here to help women who can't afford to leave their abusers. My Dad never took a dime back so I knew my money had to help others like he helped me. We are all worthy of a safe, healthy life!
